Áras na nGael is an Irish language and cultural centre, opened in 1938 to serve the Irish language community in Galway city and further afield.  Conradh na Gaeilge is based in Áras na nGael and arranges classes, workshops, social events and more in the building.   

Áras na nGael is part of a national network of Irish language centres across the country.  You can find more information on the other centres here.


There are a wide range of Irish language and cultural projects in Áras na nGael at any given time. The work that we do is aimed at all ages, language abilities and interests with full programmes of Irish language and cultural activities.    

Among these projects, there are:  

  • Irish Language Classes

  • Sean-nós dancing classes

  • Family events

  • Music and singing workshops

  • Meeting rooms and work space

  • Information on advice on Irish language and cultural events

  • Summer camps across Galway

  • Free Legal Advice Service

  • Translation Service

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Every year we have a full programme of events for Seachtain na Gaeilge which takes place from the 1st to the 17th March.  

Free Legal Advice 

Conradh na Gaeilge co-ordinates a Free Legal Advice service for the Irish language and Gaeltacht commuity.  As part of this national service, there are Free Legal Advice Centres operating in Galway, Dublin, Cork and Gaoth Dobhair. 

Comórtas Uí Chonaire

Uí Chonaire is a writing competition for young writers to encourage them to write and to provide modern reading material for teenagers. 

Summer Camps

Conradh na Gaeilge organises a series of Summer Camps for young people across Galway each year. The summer camps give children a change to enjoy various activities through the medium of Irish. 

Rooms for rent 

Áras na nGael has a wide range of spaces to rent, in the heart of Galway city. There is long-term office space available, as well as other rooms which are suitable for meetings, training sessions, seminars, interviews or classes. 

History of Áras na nGael

45 Dominick Street has a long history and the building has a long-established link with the Irish language and with Irish culture. 

Raidió na dTreabh

Raidió na  dTreabh was established in 2016 as a community Irish language station for Galway. The station is based on the third floor of Áras na nGael.

Gaeil na Gaillimhe

Áras na nGael sponsors Gaeil na Gaillimhe GAA, the only Irish-medium GAA club in Galway city. 

The club was established in 2016 an currently has both a men's team and a women's team playing at senior level. 

Irish Language Classes

Conradh na Gaeilge organises Irish language classes in Áras na nGael at various levels that are suitable for all learners.
